Naggar

Naggar was the capital of the erstwhile Kullu Rajas for about 1400 years. It was founded by the Visudh Pal and remained as the State headquarters until the capital was transformed to Kullu (Sultanpur) by Raja Jagat Singh.
Naggar Castle the official seat of kings for centuries. was built by Raja Sidh Singh more than 500 years ago. According to a legend, he used stones from the abandoned palace (Gardhak) of Rana Bhonsal to build the castle. He ordered the labourers to form a human chain over the Beas river connecting its left and right banks to transfer the stones manually. The castle survived the earthquake of 1905. While most houses in the valley and the nearby city of Jawa were completely ruined, the castle’s use of earthquake-proof techniques helped it sustain despite the calamity.
Best time for visit in nagar
The best season to visit Naggar is during the autumn time and during spring. Autumn, which prevails during the months of October and November is ideal weather-wise since the temperature is not too cold. Same is during spring time during which time the place is covered in greenery apart from having a comfortable weather.
How to reach in nagar
By road
Naggar, situated 25 km to the northeast of Kullu and 21 km to the southeast of Manali is well connected with good roads to other regions of the state of Himachal Pradesh. Bus services are available from Naggar connecting neighbouring towns and cities.
By train
The nearest railway station to Naggar is the Kiratpur Sahib Railway Station, a narrow gauge train line, which is situated at a distance of 205 km from Kullu. Travellers can avail bus services or taxis from the station to the destination. Trains to Naggar are also available from the Chandigarh station.
By Air
Bhuntar, located at a distance of approximately 32 km from th of Naggar, is the nearest airport to the place. Regular flights from the cities of Chandigarh and Delhi connect the place to the rest of the country. The Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, connects international travellers to Naggar.
